Bill Introduced to Expand Embyronic Stem Cell Research

Less than a year after similar legislation died in Congress, lawmakers introduced a bipartisan bill in both chambers Wednesday that would promote embryonic stem cell research to help find cures for diseases such as cancer and Alheimer's. The legislation would expand the number of stem cell lines derived from unused embryos that are available for federally-funded reserach.
The bill stipulates that embryos can be used for federally funded stem cell research reguardless of the date of their creation, but it requires that only embryos origianally created for fertility treatment would be used. It also askes for the beneficiaries of the treatmet to provide written consent for donation.

To Revive Hunting, States Turn to the Classroom

This article is referring to the lack of hunters today. Ten, maybe twenty years ago kids used to bring their guns to school and leave them with the principle so that they could go hunting after school let out. Hunting is becoming more and more rare. Not only is it a change in society, but not hunting like people used to causes a rise in deer population, which is said to cause more vehicular accidents.

Gun Dealer and Mayor Face Showdown

This article is about a mayor filing a law suit against several different gun stores. Most of the gun dealers say they care more about who gets their hands on a gun more than the mayor.

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/06/28/us/28guns.html

This article is talking about criminals who use illegal guns to committ the crime. After they're caught and put away, the police take their illegal guns and send them to a factory where they're melted down and reproduced into making beneficial things for society (For example: pipes, bars, appliances...etc)

Washington Council Enacts Tough Gun-Control Measure

This article is talking about a new gun control law enacted that states, in order to own a firearm, you must under go 5 hours of training, and register your gun every three years. You must also, have a criminal background check every six years. I think this is a good idea. It's not taking the guns away, but more or less taking better preventive measures and precautions to not let these guns fall into the wrong hands.

Philadelphia Can’t Set Gun Laws, Court Rules

This article is about Phillidelphia wanting to decide and enforce their own laws about gun control. I personally don't think that states should be able to make changes this controversial among everyone. Because then every other state will try to do the same, and that could lead to other issues, like, the unity of America (Especially if they start making even MORE changes individually)

When Handguns Are Accompanied by Stupidity, Anything Can Happen

I agree, in a case like this, a higher security tolerance should be at these nightclubs. That would prevent a lot of situations like this one.

Guns Are Not the Problem

I think the idea of what the government is trying to do is a bit pointless. Trying to regulate what criminals and how they purchase, and distribute, guns just doesn't seem like it's going to be all that effective. There's always going to be a black market where guns are being sold illegaly.
